Reaching out is a big step

Deciding to start therapy can bring up a mix of hope and nerves. It is completely normal to feel unsure about what to say or what will happen. You do not need to arrive with a clear plan or the perfect words.

The first conversation

Most practices begin with a short introductory call. This is a chance to ask questions, share a little about what is bringing you to therapy, and get a feel for whether the fit seems right. There is no pressure to commit during this call.

Your first session

In the first full session, you and your therapist will talk about what you hope might change, a little about your background, and practical details such as confidentiality, session length, and fees. You can share as much or as little as feels comfortable.

Questions you might ask

How do you usually work with people? What does a typical session look like? How will we know if therapy is helping? It is your space, and good questions help you make an informed choice.

A closing thought

Therapy works best when it moves at your pace. If you are curious about starting, a short conversation is often the easiest place to begin.
